Gildea's Pharmacy was opened in 1955 by Paddy Gildea MPSI. Paddy and his wife Rita started off in a tiny lock-up unit on the same site where the present shop stands. They made their home in Kinnegad and were welcomed into the community - Paddy had a huge interest in veterinary medicines in particular and farmers came from far and wide to get his advice and to purchase many home-made preparations for numerous ailments.

Over time the pharmacy expanded, and by the time Paddy and Rita came to retire in 1997, their lifetime of hard work and dedication to the people of the area had built up a very busy pharmacy with an interst in a wide range of areas - including an Opticians practice operated by their son David. Upon the retirement of Paddy and Rita Gildea, the pharmacy was bought by their son John, who runs the pharmacy with his wife Orna, who is also a pharmacist.

A major rebuild in 1999 was followed by a massive expansion in 2009 - to give the state of the art premises the pharmacy operates from today.

Gildea's Pharmacy - like the town of Kinnegad - has seen a great number of changes over the last 50 years or more, but is still based on the same principles - to provide an excellent service to our customers and the wider community we serve.
